Briarwood Great Danes is the realization of a pet loving family, their continued dedication to many breeds throughout their lives culminating with their admiration and love of the Great Dane breed.

Our family includes my husband, Anthony, and myself -  Susan; our two children, our Danes and our many other pets. Our home, an 1871 Farmhouse, is nestled along the Fox River in the Historic District of beautiful downtown West Dundee.

We are active board members of the Lake Shore Great Dane Club, Inc. of Illinois founded by Hilde Compton in 1954, and uphold and support the Club’s mission:

“To Promote the Well-being and Advancement of the Great Dane breed”.

Our Philosophy - “The strength and stability of briarwood is owed to its mighty roots”  Loving pets enrich our lives.
We believe that our dogs are companions for life, and being a “show dog” is but a small for part of it.  The focus of our future is based on a few important factors: Temperament, Health & Conformation. All of our dogs have been raised with our children, along with a myriad of other pets in our home, so good temperaments are required. Whether for companion or for show, it is paramount having a puppy with a healthy, proven pedigree, beautiful breed type, correct temperament and sound nature. Having these qualities and traits behind your pet, give you the confidence needed understanding the responsibility of living with a giant breed dog. If a companion puppy is what you are looking for, they deserve to be well bred and healthy; the same as any “show” prospect. We will breed mainly to healthy, sound pure-bred Champions or those very close to achieving their championships; or an exemplary dog that can contribute to an existing lineage with strong breed specific characteristics, type, style and a stable, balanced nature. Our sole purpose is to breed for the betterment of the Great Dane, we will only breed for producing the best puppies possible, meeting the AKC Great Dane standard in all aspects.

We adhere to the Great Dane Club of America’s Code of Ethics and their Ethical Color Breeding Guide.

Whether companion or show, when dogs are available, we do have a few considerations that are very important for the health and well being of our puppies:

1. You must provide a safe and sound indoor living environment with an age appropriate diet.

2. We do not sell to any families where both parents are away at work all day. Its unhealthy to spend too much time crated and can result in health and behavioral issues.

3. You must have an adequate fencing (not electronic) for exercise and safety, or have ample time for daily exercise.

4. You must enroll and complete an AKC certified puppy class/kindergarten.

5. We highly recommend pet health insurance. Big dogs can have big injuries that equal big bills.

6. Should you be unable to provide for your pet at any point in time, they shall be returned to the breeder and not to a shelter.

We are not in the business of producing puppies in mass quantities or for profit, and will then sell only into pre-qualified homes. All inquiries are welcome, open communications are expected…. as we feel your new puppy is an extension of our family. We do not breed on a regular basis, only occasionally, with the intent to continue our family lineage & preserve our pedigree. However, we can assist you in finding the right breeder should you need guidance for that lifetime companion or show dog.  Showing our dogs is something we enjoy and our involvement with the breed is an endeavor and labor of love, so as our knowledge grows so will this site.

For the love of the breed.
